Yahoo Publisher Survey – They don’t want to hear the bad news

by alex on July 6, 2006

Yahoo Publisher Network sent me an email asking me to take a survey about the Yahoo Publisher Network offering some mystery incentive for taking the time to do it. I thought why not. I run a site that had over 1,000,000 page views last month and have been really disappointed with the results I’ve gotten using Yahoo Publisher Network, so I thought I would help them out and let them know what I thought. It would be good to have a real alternative to Adsense.
Here’s what they said in the email about the survey

We think you may find this survey interesting, and your input will be considered carefully by Yahoo! senior management. Please note that the only goal of this survey is to collect your opinions. You can be assured that your responses will remain confidential and only analyzed in the aggregate. Upon completion of the survey, you will receive a small gift in appreciation for your time.

They ask me if I run more than one site – sure I run lots of sites, most don’t have any advertising. They take me through the survey, ask some questions about the high volume site which uses advertising which happens to be DigitalPodcast.com and uses advertising services a lot, then they want to know about second highest volume site. That’s Castwiki for me. It does about 50k visits per month, but I put that site up as a service to the podcasting community with no ads. When I answered Yahoo’s question about whether I’m interested in advertising for that site I said no.

Their response – straight from the browser

“We appreciate your efforts, but unfortunately you do not fit with the specific criteria we are pursuing for this project. Thank you for your time.”

Yahoo just doesn’t want to hear how bad it is, or maybe they just don’t like following through on giving a small gift for my time.

PS when I sent an email to the address they said to send questions to I get this response from my email complaining that they don’t want to hear what we have to say (emails and names xxx out to protect the innocent )

I will be out of the office until July 20th. If you need immediate assistance please contact XXXXXX XXXXXX (XXXXXX@yahoo-inc.com) or XXXXXX XXXXXX (XXXXXX@yahoo-inc.com).

Thanks
XXXXXX
